Battle of the wits: Round 1

Probably not round 1 for real, but first documented.

Scene: dinner table, menu: Shrimp scampi with Tuscan bread and tomato salad and steamed summer squash

Ellie: All! (which means all done.  She had eaten all her shrimp and none of her salad or squash)
Mike and Beth (alternating turns trying to coax and reason): Ellie, please eat one piece of bread and one piece of squash.

Repeat multiple times by both parties.  Bread eventually eaten.

Mike and Beth: Ellie, do you want to go straight to bed without singing and reading books?
Ellie: NO!
Mike and Beth: then you have to eat your squash.
Ellie: No! (pushes squash away multiple times, throws one piece on floor)

Ellie is now sitting at the table by herself, all dishes are cleared and Beth is questioning Mike as to whether or not it is wise to try and reason with a 2 year old.  Mike insists she knows what she is doing and she is going to eat her squash.

Ellie is obviously crying and throwing a fit at this point.
Mike (in stern voice as he walks briskly to the table): That's it Ellie, you are going to bed.

Ellie snatches up the squash before Mike can get to her and downs it.  Smiles and says how yummy it is.  Then proceeds to eat the piece she had previously thrown on the floor, likely with cat hair on it.

I have to hand this one to Mike.  I was totally ready to cave.
