Sports Squirts

When we moved up here I thought it might be time to sign Ellie up for some classes.  Both for her sake and for ours.  I was told by other moms that this is the age where you start meeting friends and new people through such activities.  Plus she is getting old enough to benefit herself from such activities.  Not wanting to be super girly from the get go with things like ballet and gymnastics, we started with the sports squirts class through the Eastchester Rec Dept.  It met for 6 weeks on Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 am and just so happened to run through my maternity leave (otherwise I was wondering who in the world would be able to go to an activity planned at such a time).

She did not display as much enthusiasm for the class as I had anticipated.
Week 1 (Soccer):  Ellie cried the entire time and was plastered to the fence at the edge of the field.
Week 2 (Field Hockey):  She actually made it onto the field by the end of the class, but only when Mike would go out there with her and hold her hand.
Week 3 (Lacrosse): She made it onto the field by herself, but wouldn't participate in any of the activities unless Mike was out there helping her.
Week 4 (T-ball): Improvement in the length of time it took her to get out onto the field, but still wasn't actively participating until the very last 10 min of class.
Week 5 (Basketball):  Much of the class was spent by herself in the corner, but did actually make a basket by the end of class
Week 6 (Soccer):  Again, most of class off by herself in the corner, playing with her own toy, but pulled it together at the last minute to score a goal and get her certificate.

Her favorite part of sports class--picking up the cones at the end of class and asking what was for next week.

Week 1 Soccer

Week 2 Field Hockey.  You will notice she isn't near the other kids.

A rare moment where she allowed instruction by Coach Matt

The rare moment when she looked like she was having fun.

She looks just like Mommy in this picture

Week 3 Lacrosse: Doing her own thing

Week 4 T-ball  Hitting with Daddy
