This April we were graced with a visit from Lance, Leah, Sophie and Owen from Seattle, as well as Mom and Jim. In thinking back, it was the best weekend of Spring/Summer so far! Thursday night we met The Seattle Adams' in the city for a showing of Wicked. It was wicked awesome. Yeah, I just did that. Really though we had a great time and it's sort of sad that we have to wait for people to come to visit us to do things like go to a Broadway show. We even had an amazing NY moment when we went to check in with our tickets only to find that they had accidentally been purchased for the night before. Within 2 minutes we had brand new tickets in our hands free of charge. That is NOT something I expected to see happen but it did and made the experience just that much more special. Plus the seats were pretty good.
Friday night Mom and Jim came to the house so that we could meet up with Lance and Leah etc in the city. We had chosen to take the East River Ferry over to Brooklyn to be on the waterfront since it was such a gorgeous day out. We figured the city would be teeming with people no matter where we went. Ultimately so was Brooklyn, but we nailed it, being just that much ahead of the crowds. And we schooled the fancy ice cream place with purchasing pints instead of single cones for the lot of us. Headed back to the house for some afternoon cocktails and steaks on the grill before Mom and Jim drove back home.
On Sunday we went to the Zoo and then grabbed some 'za in Arthur Ave before hanging at the house and bringing the Adams back to the airport. What made the whole weekend extra special for Mike and I was that Sophie and Owen were **incredible** with the kids. Considering the little time that our kids have spent together over the years, and that when they do there is usually so much chaos and commotion going on its hard to know who is actually there, these kids acted like they knew each other like bests. It only made me sad that we do live so far away and won't be able to see them for some time. It also gave Mike and I a nice fast forward about 10 years to hopefully see what it will be like with our kids. I can only pray they are as polite, well mannered, well spoken and fun as Sophie and Owen.

Beth,
ReplyDeleteI just got around to reading this and you hit the nail square on the head. Sophie and Owen loved being around Ellie and Zack as much as they liked them. Thanks for being such a great host and sharing the City with us. Lots of great rememories!
